Mr Samuel Dresner

MBBS, MD, FRCS (Gen Surg)

I qualified MBBS from the University of Newcastle in 1993. Having finished my house jobs at the Freeman Hospital, I then went on to undertake basic surgical training in Birmingham and then back in Newcastle. The FRCS examination was completed in 1997 and I then was appointed as a General Surgery Registrar in the Northern Region, training in most of the hospitals in the North East and Cumbria. For two years during this time I was involved in full-time research at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne leading to the award of an MD higher degree on my work investigating the cause of Barrett’s oesophagus. In my later years of training I specialised in surgery of the upper gastrointestinal tract. I was a appointed as a Consultant Upper GI Surgeon in 2005 and aside form hernia surgery, I specialise in the surgery for cancer of the oesophagus and stomach as well as bariatric (weight reduction) surgery. I am also heavily involved in surgical training and recently completed a Post-graduate Certificate in Medical Education back at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.

I am married with four children, which takes up most of my life outside work. In any spare time I play golf, follow Leeds United and enjoy the theatre and foreign travel.
