John has been a Consultant Orthopaedic upper limb surgeon since 2007 at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead. He undertook higher surgical training in Manchester and a Fellowship at Wrightington Hospital.
His main interests lie in soft tissue reconstructive surgery in the upper limb and in the treatment of sports injuries (approx. 2/3 hand and wrist & 1/3 shoulder).
He has treated athletes from Team GB Rowing since 2009 including World Champions and Olympic medallists. Other professional sportspeople treated include Newcastle United and Sunderland AFC players, British Superbike riders, Newcastle Falcons and Eagles.
With Martin White in 2016 he formed the Cumbria Hand Surgery Service in partnership with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead. This patient centred service is provided at Hilltop Heights, Carlisle and treats 5 conditions – Dupuytren’s contracture, hand swellings, cubital tunnel syndrome, trigger finger and De Quervain’s tenosynovitis.
John is married with 3 children and enjoys paddle boarding, cycling and the Fells!
