Minor Surgery

Carpal Tunnel

All patients are forwarded a patient survey 3 months post-op questioning them on a range of subjects including scar satisfaction, effectiveness of local anaesthetic, clinic facilities, doctor and nurse manner, and overall satisfaction.

Hernia Service

  • Very impressed with the service provided. No complaints.
  • Very professional service throughout.
  • Everything was clearly explained and the procedure carried out professionally. The team did everything possible to reassure me throughout so I was never concerned. I took the prescribed painkillers on the day of the operation and the day after and experienced no post-operative pain at all. I waited for it to kick in on the third day but it never did.
  • Everything went well with no problems.
  • Very friendly, efficient and professional service from start to finish.
  • At the moment it is difficult to get an appointment with a GP in our practice. Once you are able to get a doctors referral, the treatment and all the medical team are brilliant.

  • Just a short note of thanks to you all and surgeons and the nurses at Maryport cottage hospital. I had my hernia surgery there last Wednesday 15/2/23. Very professional and courteous service. Very clean and my wife and my daughter looked after in the waiting room whilst I had my operation. I’ve never had private care before but if I did I imagine it to be like this. This is the NHS at it’s very best. I am recovering well. The aftercare is there if I need it. Thank you all very much.
  • I had surgery for a hernia on Wednesday, 3rd May in Carlisle, and I would like to say ‘thank you’ to you, Mr Dresner and the whole team who looked after me so well during my stay. I have written to our local paper, The Westmorland Gazette, about my experience with Cumbria Medical Services. They might not publish it, so I’ll send you my comments.
    In recent months, I’ve been made aware of what I think is probably one of Cumbria’s best kept secrets. Cumbria medical services in Carlisle. My GP referred me for an ultrasound of a suspected hernia, which confirmed it. Shortly afterwards I received a phone call offering me an appointment for surgery.
    My first appointment was for an assessment was on 13th March in Carlisle, and I left with a date for surgery on 3rd May – 7 weeks later! What an impressive facility it is. A new building, staffed by professional, calm and caring people, offering surgery by skilled surgeons and GP’s (GPwER), which is General Practitioners with Extended Roles. More people should be aware of this gem, as I have not yet spoken to anyone who has heard of it! I’d like to give credit where it’s due. It’s another example of our wonderful NHS doing an excellent job for their local community. An added bonus is its on-site NJ’s Café, where they serve very good, and reasonably priced food. I do hope this is printed, so that more people may ask their GP’s to be referred. Thank you again. Just waiting for the 6-8 weeks recovery time to whizz by now.

  • Although slightly anxious, after the initial injection nothing was felt. The injection was a slight discomfort and nothing more. All involved were very professional and made me feel comfortable in an awkward situation. I left in no pain or discomfort, fully advised on what to do afterwards.

Ophthalmology Service

  • Professional but friendly and efficient service. No waiting.

Hand Surgery Service

Two year patient report following surgery:

Fantastic result, hands and fingers straight. Guitar playing 100% and climbing 100% (sea cliffs at Swanage Dorset below, Portland Jurassic limestone). Always grateful for your skill and your team.
